Guest Judge, Denise Birdsong is an award-winning wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer from the San Francisco Bay Area. Through her experiences as a dancer and model, Denise mastered the fine art of communication and storytelling through body language and facial expression. Emotion is what makes portrait photography truly standout, and it’s usually the missing component for most photographers. Denise is passionate about teaching her master photography students her signature methodology that takes them to the next level of their craft through her Stripped Down course,

Denise selected this image because it. “evokes a sense of urgency and passion in the viewer straight away. Hands are so incredibly important in telling a story. The embrace depicted, the way his hand is gently but purposefully digging into his skin is exceptional. The second you view this mage you feel the desire coursing through the image, you feel the urgency and the passion. It is a beautiful example of telling an emotive story with body language!”

1st runner up this week is Hillary West from Hillary West Studios based in Norfolk, VA.
Denise felt “The quiet and sublime feeling of this image is remarkable. The intentional use of light and shadow is divine and adds an emotive element that washes over you like a calm peace while still evoking drama (in the shadows). The light reminds me very much of a Jan Vermeer painting, it is beautiful!”
Kara Dunn | Midnight Sun Boudoir
2nd runner up is Kara Dunn of Midnight Sun Boudoir LLC based in Fairbanks, AK.
Denise’s comments,”This image draws you in instantly and fills you with a sense of pleasure. Our subject with her body elongated, head and hair thrown back, breathe out all subconsciously brings us to a place where we are experiencing the pleasure she is feeling with her. Great job!”
