After a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University\, Niki first worked as a Detroit Police Officer. She spent time in patrol in Southwest Detroit\, working under cover\, with US Customs and Immigration and Border Patrol and also working vice as an undercover sex worker. \nAfter police work\, Niki went back to school and obtained a Degree in Nursing.  She stayed in Detroit as an Emergency Nurse and Sexual Assault Forensic Nurse Examiner for many years.  She was the Assistant Program Director for Wayne County Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners\, one of the busiest programs in the country. She obtained formal training in managing traumatized patients from the National Forensic Nursing Institute in both adults and pediatrics. She is certified SANE-A and SANE-p.  Niki has performed hundreds of forensic exams on sexually-abused patients and is qualified as an expert witness in Federal\, Circuit\, District\, and Family courts. \nTogether with her husband\, they wrote two chapters in the American College of Emergency Physicians Standards of Practice.  One chapter was Working with Law Enforcement and the other was on Human Trafficking.  During these experiences\, Niki honed critical communication and emotional skills necessary to recognize the signs of trauma-induced behavior and successfully guide affected individuals to a favorable outcome.
